This is a Hindu festival celebrating spring, where people throw colored powder and water at each other regardless of who they are.
Adults and children alike can enjoy the colorful day, even if it means getting soaked from head to toe.
On this day, if you go out in the city, you might get hit with powder or water balloons from nowhere, or even get pushed around!
There are particular dangers for women and children, so our family enjoys the festival safely in the gardens of the society where we live.
It's a day when children get soaked from head to toe with water guns while music that is unbelievably loud in Japan plays, and adults also have fun throwing powder and water at each other while drinking alcohol.
